2012 CTETA Past Events

Sat, 12/09/2012 -- Eddie Rodriguez was the instructor for a de-spooking arena practice at Bob Jones trail head at Walnut Grove Trail. The north wind blowing in helped make the afternoon more challenging. There was hot cider, cookies and pumpkin bread, as well as an optional gift exchange. Susan and Bird looked great in their Santa hats.

Sat, 11/10/2012 -- Annual membership drive and barbecue was again graciously hosted by Lisa and Howard at their lovely home.

Sat, 11/03/2012 -- Terry Hinojosa camped out overnight on Friday at TADRA Point in LBJ Grasslands, then led a ride on the trails on Saturday morning.

Sat, 10/27/2012 -- Diane McLeod and Natalie Sandoval rode in the Susan G. Komen North Texas Ride for the Cure® at LBJ Grasslands TADRA Point. The fund raiser supports breast cancer services and research. Up to 75 percent of net funds raised stay in North Texas Affiliate to support education, screening and treatment initiatives and a minimum of 25 percent is contributed to the Komen national research efforts. CTETA provided each member rider with $50 towards their required $250 fund raising minimum.

Sat, 10/13/2012 -- Robin Bird led a ride on the challenging Rocky Point trail on north side of Lake Grapevine.

"Special thanks to Robin Bird for my favorite trail ride ever! What a fun ride and an excellent ride guide! We rode challenging ups and downs, along beautiful creeks, lakeside and even beach front right here in north Texas! Robin knows those trails inside and out so we took the little side trails and got to see the extra beautiful sites all while hearing neat stories along the way! I encourage you to join in the fun when this is offered again! Don't let the word "advanced" trail scare you off. Robin is very considerate of what your comfort zone is and with his expertise of the trails, he can choose trails that are more or less challenging. We went for challenging - so much fun! I know I am always a little apprehensive before i go on a ride with someone new, but no need to be with Robin. He asks if you would like to trot (for example), then announces before he begins. All around Wonderful experience!" - Brenda Hagler

Sat, 09/15/2012 -- Finally cooler temperatures after the hot Texas summer. Susan Bodemiller and Alice Morgan were ride leaders on Walnut Grove trail on the south side of Lake Grapevine. Susan led a leisurely ride for 9 riders. The walk pace gave the opportunity to talk with friendly "chatting going on down the line". Alice led a fast group of 3 riders.

Sat, 06/30/2012 -- Lisa Broughton led a ride at Lake Ray Roberts with a lunch afterwards at Bronze Buffalo Grill at Lantana.

Sat, 06/19/2012 Texas Trail Challenge -- CTETA's 2nd Annual TTC held at the Valley View campgrounds at LBJ Grasslands was a great success. Alanna Sommer was once again a superb Ride Manager. There were 37 riders, including 20 Tenderfoot (of which 5 were Juniors). Our High Point winner was Beverlee Nix on Color Me Gun, and High Point Reserve was Cynthia Fanning on Monte. There were 29 riders in the Poker Run on May 20th.

Obstacles included: back up through brush and in a figure “6”; dismount and pick your horse’s hoof; send your horse over a log; send your horse through a gate (backwards, in more experienced divisions); side pass in-hand in a figure “W”; mount your horse (offside, in experienced divisions); side pass down terrain; trot, then stop; and there was a hidden observation for form and control as each rider went up a hill. There were also checks in camp for soundness (in-hand trot), carrying the proper equipment (halter, lead, hoofpick, etc.), and having tack that fit and was in good working condition.

After the event the horses got to cool off at the lake. Alanna's horse, Rascal, rolled on both sides. Kristen's Arabian, Crissy, dabbed her toes in the water. Meg's Icelandic horses, Twistur and Bangsi, needed encouragement to go in the water. They had never been in a warm Texas lake before, but sure enjoyed splashing around.

Sat, 05/12/2012 -- Despite a soggy start, the day turned out to be good riding weather for the Texas Trail Challenge obstacle practice clinic. The 15 riders and horses were a wonderfully diverse group with many different breeds of horses and levels of experience. Thanks to the 4 clinicians: Alanna Sommer, Eddie Rodriguez, Liz Scott, and Becky Rogers.

Sat-Sun, 04/24-25/2012 Many CTETA members attended an Eddie Rodriguez clinic in Gainesville on how to control the 5 body parts of your horse.

"I thought the barbeque was great. I had never been to Riscky’s before. It was a neat atmosphere being right in the stockyards. We got a big table on the patio which was closed and heated for the winter.

The trail ride was a blast. It was really neat to be able to ride from the historic stockyards and then be right next to all the modern buildings by downtown. The actual trail was flat and easy to navigate. There were some cyclists and pedestrians, but they usually gave you a heads up or stayed to the side. I didn’t notice any horses that had trouble with them. I would definitely recommend that ride to anyone! The only part that might be scary for green or timid horses was the wooden bridge at the beginning and riding under the overpasses, but they would probably follow if a more confident horse went first." - Angie Binovi
