Membership fees help keep the trails clear, maintained and improved.

Thanks to your support through your membership fees and the many volunteers CTETA continues to make improvements to our local equestrian trails. We thank you for your continuing support and help. Plans are underway for more improvements to the trails.

Additional volunteers are always welcome, even just picking up trash at the local trailheads is a chance to help. Your club membership helps pay for mowing, trimming, and other trail maintenance and improvement projects.

The trail stewards regularly ride the trails and report any problems found. They are ambassadors for the trail and help provide a watchful eye for safety issues. If any member notes any trail hazards on your rides, then please let a board member know. If you are interested in being a trail steward, then please contact Terry Hinojosa.

Thank you to our sponsors. Please support our sponsors of CTETA.

Improving the trails

Thank you for all who help us keep these trails available for everyone to enjoy hiking in nature or enjoying time with our horses.

CTETA has been working with Lake Ray Roberts Equestrian Trail Association ( LRRETA ) to develop projects to improve the riding trails and equestrian camping areas. CTETA donated funds towards the repair of the washed out bridge at Lake Ray Roberts that closed a section of the equestrian trail. The trail is now open.

LLRETA and CTETA have worked together to improve our trails.

LLRETA added a handicapped mounting block and a large round pen at the Isle du Bois Bluestem Equestrian camping area. The automatic waterers funded by CTETA are by the round pen. Camping pens have also been added.

CTETA has also donated money to support Greenfest in Denton. $500 was donated for the 2016 Green Fest. LLRETA hosted a trail challenge and ride at the 2016 Green Fest. LLRETA and CTETA have worked together on some trail events, including geocache training days in Spring 2016 and 2017.

CTETA members participated in cleaning up litter on the Elm Fork and Pilot Knoll trail that floated up after heavy rains, as well as working on cleaning up the trails at the LBJ Grasslands after some storm damage. CTETA board members work with the Corps of Engineer and local cities to keep the trails for all of us to enjoy.

Thanks to Robin Bird for making a mounting block at Cross Timbers trail. CTETA helps provide funds to keep trails maintained, including mowing tall grass and weeds.

Trophy Club added a new equestrian parking lot in 2013. CTETA was involved in giving input to this improvement.

Several improvements were made in 2012.

Phil Shelp supervised the addition of a special paint to help provide a safe surface with better traction for horses crossing over the elevated bridge on the Elm Fork trail on Lake Lewisville.

Lisa B. and Susan B. marking equestrian trail

Thank you to Susan Bodenmiller, Lisa and Howard Broughton for putting in new trail markers on Cross Timbers trail off Dunham Road.

CTETA at invitation of the Corps of Engineers had several members and four horses participate in the June 9th National Get Outdoors Day event on Lake Lewisville. Horseback trail riding and how to safely share the trail with horses was presented.

Thanks to all those who helped on the "Old Alton Bridge & Corinth Trail Clean-up Day" on Elm Fork trail held on April 21. Special thanks to Phil Shelp and Glenn Schedeen of "Corinth Trails Committee" who filled in a low boggy spot on the trail behind Kensington Estates with rocks.

LBJ Grasslands windmill plaque

CTETA was the driving force in repairing this windmill at LBJ Grasslands. The cost was shared with the U.S. Forest Service, Friends of the Grasslands, and Hodges Farms who has a cattle lease. Our member Al Olsson helped convince the Forest Service that we could manage the project, then coordinated the work & did lots of the manual labor himself. Cross Timbers trail helped provide feedback on the develop of the Dunham Road Trailhead improvements and parking lot.
